Obituary

William “Bill” Leeland Fischer, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. Born on August 2, 1941, in the Town of Ellington, Bill was a longtime resident of Hortonville and a proud member of the community he served and loved.

Bill dedicated many years of his career to Outagamie County. Earlier in life, he honorably served in the United States Army, where he was a Sharpshooter, Marksman, and Basic Missileman. It was during his time in the Army that he met the love of his life, Beverly—who remained at the heart of his best stories. Together, they shared a love for traveling, especially road trips, creating memories and stories along the way.

A man of simple joys and strong passions, Bill was an avid fisherman who found peace on the water and joy in sharing that tradition with his family. He was a devoted fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on, usually in the comfort of his garage with a beer in his hand. He had a sweet tooth and especially loved baked goods delivered with care from his granddaughters.

Bill was a faithful Catholic who never missed Mass and lived his life grounded in quiet devotion and strong values. He was known for his quick wit, his steady supply of good jokes, and his gift for storytelling—especially when Beverly was there to help fill in the details. He also deeply appreciated the many kind, helpful, and friendly neighbors who were part of his life throughout the years, valuing the sense of community and connection they shared.

Above all, Bill was a deeply devoted family man. He never missed a grandchild’s sporting event and took great pride in supporting and bragging about each of them. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren, always making a point to check in and stay connected. He was a proud and loving Papa to his great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them.

Bill is survived by his children: Michael (Lisa) Fischer; Julie (Jeff); and Matt (Bridget), and Matt’s former wife, Kim. He also leaves behind Lisa’s children, Angela (Tony), Gina (Ray), and Blaire Marie (Bancs); Julie’s children, Holly Fassbender, Carena (Charlie) Koeppl, and Alyssa Baker (Dan Baker); and Matt’s children, Racer (Elicia) and Reece.

He is further survived by his cherished great-grandchildren: Callaway, Paxton, Liam, Crosby, Everly, and Oaklyn, as well as his beloved “adopted grandchildren,” Mya and Brielle.

Bill is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Holly), Judy (Wayne), Jeanie (Leo), Gerri, and brother in law, Kirk, with whom he remained close throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly; his father, Leeland Fischer; his mother, Julia Fischer; his stepfather, Armon; his brother, Steven Fischer; his sister, Donna Pingel; and his brother-in-law, Tom Foley.

Bill will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his deep love for family, his humor, and the countless stories that will continue to be told in his honor. His legacy lives on in the traditions he passed down, the laughter he shared, and the family he loved so dearly.

The Funeral Mass for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville on Monday, May 18, 2026 with Fr. Phil Schoofs officiating. Visitation will take place at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Hortonville with Full Military Honors.

The Family would like to thank Bristol Hospice, especially Kasey, Kiera, and Hallie for their great care and compassion they gave to Bill.
