William Hamilton "Bill" Martin, age 80 of Hortonville, was born into eternal life on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at home, with his family at his side. Bill was born on July 9, 1942 in Appleton, to the late Wayne and Victoria (Carollo) Martin. He was united in marriage to Mary Van Treeck on August 26, 1978, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. She preceded him in death in 1990. He grew up on Foster Street on Appleton's south side, and attended grade school at Sacred Heart. Bill graduated from Appleton High School in 1960. Bill served his country in the US Army from 1964-1966, as a communication specialist, with his duty taking him to Hawaii. He worked for the telephone company (AT&T) as a lineman, installer and then as a systems technician, retiring in 1994. Bill enjoyed hunting- having harvested 100 deer in his lifetime. Additionally, he liked upland bird hunting, elk hunting in Montana and Colorado, and fishing in Canada. Bill could often be found attending the drag races at WIR. He was a life member of the Twin City Rod & Gun Club, The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the National Rifle Association. Additional memberships include: Wolf River Classic Chevy Club, Valley Racing Pigeon Club, Ruffed Grouse Society, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus, where he volunteered for concessions at Lambeau Field. Bill was an active member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Hortonville.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Dana (Josh) Sykora and four grandchildren, Claire, Evelyn, Caleb and Joseph; six sisters-in-law: Patricia Hoffmann, Nan (Keith) Auld, Jane Van Treeck, Bonnie (Tony) Dunn, Jackie (Bob) Eigenberger, and Marcia Van Treeck; two brothers-in-law: Jerome (Rosemary) Van Treeck and Terry (Cathy) Van Treeck.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; his sister, Barbara Jane; his brothers, James and Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Judith Gordon and Shirley Ramsey; and a brother-in-law Richard Hoffmann.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville with Fr. Phil Schoofs officiating. The visitation will take place on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will take place at 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where full military honors will be held.
