Al was born on November 6, 1935 in Butte, Nebraska to the late William H. and Frieda (Stroh) Sorensen. He married Delores McHugh on May 13, 1961 in Shiocton and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in January of 2024. Al was a school teacher his entire working life. He taught at New London Middle School from 1965 until his retirement in 1995. Prior to that Al taught in Waupaca for four years. Together Al and Dee loved playing music. He played the guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin and harmonica. They wrote songs and poetry together. You could often find Al and Dee riding around town on their bicycles, attending rummage sales and auctions. Al collected old cars, along with cameras and many antiques. In his younger years, he coached Little League and joined the Charles Atlas Bodybuilding Club. Al was a member of the Old Car Club in Waupaca and in his lifetime, owned over 100 cars. Also, as an artist, Al painted over 2000 paintings! Al always enjoyed his time spent with his brother, Glenn. Together they would go out shooting their guns.
Al is survived by his son, Wade (Corinne) Sorensen; grandchild, Lorin (Dave) Weinmann; great-grandchild, Raine; nieces and nephews, Pam, Karen, Donna, Paula, Penny, Diana, Jim, Peter; John; his siblings, James Glenn (Nellie) Sorensen and Nancy Sorensen; brother-in-law, Ken McHugh (friend, Arlene) and sister-in-law, Kathy Prunty.
